Keep Sport Free!

I'm sure you've all seen the advertisements with Grant Hackett and that other chick that used to be a really good swimmer but is now a bad commentator on Channel 9 - well, they have an important message to deliver.

As most of you dedicated sports fans will know, the Australian Government is talking about changing the Anti-Siphoning legislation which allows Australians free viewing access to major sporting events broadcast on Free to Air TV. The major reason I am writing this, whilst I not normally would, is because of the threat of removal of AFL broadcasts from FTA TV - Pay TV set to bid on AFL Games

For me, a critical part of my childhood, which has lead to such an interest in sport now, was spent watching the Olympics/Commonwealth Games and AFL on TV, cheering on my favourite team. I fear that if this goes through, my children (although a long way off being born yet) will not get the same privileges due to rising pay television costs. I also think this is an important for sport to reach into homes, where it would never touch, should pay television get exclusive rights.

So, if you haven't already - please visit here: Keep Sport Free and sign your name on the petition. Also, please pass this on to friends and family, as it is important that we spread the word, and keep sport free for generations to come.

[end rant]
